On March 26, 2007, Washtenaw County and 20/20 Communications representatives conducted a Wireless Washtenaw open forum at the Manchester High School. To read more about it, check out Tuesday's article in the Ann Arbor News as well as the update on the County's website.
Today's update is a third installment concerning Pre-Deployment.
Pre-deployment is split into three sub-phases: Engineering, Asset Acquisition and Billing. It is a combination of these three sub-phases that will determine the much anticipated roll-out schedule.
Last week I covered engineering. This week I'll cover Billing.
We are currently in the process of setting up the Wireless Washtenaw billing system. We expect to have it operational in a couple of weeks.
As mentioned many times in several updates and on the agreements all pilot participants received, 20/20 will test the billing system with a $2.00 charge. We will send all pilot participants emails with details of what to expect and how to go about entering your charge card information.
After the testing is complete, 20/20 Communications will begin normal charging for service. In the beginning we are only offering two services: Free 84kbps service and $35/mo 500kbps residential service. At that time, pilot participants must choose between the free 84kbps service and the $35/month for 500kbps service. 20/20 representatives will email and phone pilot participants to make sure they understand the service offerings and choices.
Pilot Participants: If you haven't done so yet, please be sure to check out the 84kbps service to determine if it fits your needs. If you need assistance, call 734-973-2020 and press 3 for Internet service.
As we progress through the pre-deployment and deployment phases, 20/20 will phase in the full range of services including a 500kbps daily service for $8, a weekly 500kbps service for $15 and a T1 class business service for $49/mo.
20/20 Communications was selected by Washtenaw County to provide county wide Wireless Internet access.
There are four (4) phases to Wireless Washtenaw:
· Pilot
· Pre-deployment
· Deployment
· Customer acquisition and retention.
The phases will begin to overlap as portions of them are completed throughout the county.
